Northern India is currently in the grip of a severe heatwave, as temperatures soar across various states, setting new records for the season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released comprehensive advisories to tackle these extreme conditions, focusing on survival strategies amid rising mercury levels.
The unprecedented heat has pushed India's peak power demand to an all-time high of 252.07 GW, underscoring the surge in usage of cooling devices such as air conditioners. In Delhi, the temperature peaked at 42.8 degrees Celsius, marking the hottest day recorded so far this year.
Authorities urge citizens to minimize exposure to the sun and stay hydrated, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, require special attention to prevent heat-related illnesses. The IMD emphasizes the importance of early awareness and preventive measures to combat heat stress.
