Sizzling Vidarbha: Akola Tops India's Temperature Charts

Akola in Maharashtra recorded the highest temperature in India at 46.9°C, with Nagpur and Vidarbha regions experiencing severe heat waves. An anticyclonic circulation and dry northwesterly winds contribute to the heat. Relief is expected with possible rainfall and temperature dip soon.

Akola, situated in Maharashtra, has become the hottest spot in India, recording a blazing temperature of 46.9°C. As per MeT officials, this sweltering heatwave has affected Nagpur and multiple areas within the Vidarbha region, anticipating persisting high temperatures of up to 47 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department's Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur reported that Amravati came close with 46.8°C, followed by Wardha at 46.4°C, Yavatmal at 46°C, Nagpur at 45.4°C, and Chandrapur at 45°C. Dr Praveen Kumar of RMC attributes these conditions to an anticyclonic circulation and dry northwesterly winds.

The heatwave conditions are projected to last until Tuesday, after which a slight reprieve is expected. The IMD has issued an 'orange' alert for Akola, Amravati, and Wardha, and a 'yellow' alert for Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal, with relief from heat anticipated through rains and cooler winds.
