On Monday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu announced directives for effective implementation of the city's heatwave action plan. The announcement followed a meeting with various departments to assess Delhi's readiness for upcoming heatwave conditions.
With summer’s arrival, Sandhu urged all officers to ensure ground-level action within a week. District magistrates are to lead these efforts, focusing on protecting vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly, and laborers, through strategic heat mitigation measures at public spaces.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized seamless departmental coordination, detailing plans for protecting not only humans but also the city's birds and animals during extreme weather. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, warning the city of imminent heatwave conditions.
