The Delhi Forest Department has announced an ambitious high-density plantation project aimed at revitalizing the Central Ridge. Spanning across 10 acres of degraded forest land, this initiative intends to establish a robust native forest ecosystem.
Approximately 100,000 to 150,000 saplings are to be planted at a density of 3-5 saplings per square meter. Employing the Miyawaki-style plantation method, the department aims to cultivate a self-sustaining forest ecosystem known for rapid canopy development. Specific measures include site surveys, soil testing, and detailed micro-planning.
The project encompasses the eradication of invasive species, soil enhancement, and the installation of a comprehensive irrigation system. The initiative also promises protective infrastructure against grazing and human intrusion, along with a meticulously planned three-year maintenance program focusing on essential aspects such as watering, weeding, and biodiversity monitoring.
