Himachal Pradesh Faces Destruction Amid Severe Thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorms caused widespread damage across Himachal Pradesh, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles, and destroying the roofs of houses and cowsheds. One person died, and numerous cattle perished. The meteorological office issued a weather alert, predicting continued adverse conditions. Restoration efforts are ongoing as rainfall and gusty winds persist in the region.

Severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh early Monday, causing widespread destruction. Trees were uprooted, roofs of homes, schools, and cowsheds were damaged, and numerous vehicles were affected. The extreme weather also led to the death of dozens of cattle.

In Kullu district's Banjar area, several infrastructures were hit. In Shimla and Kangra, fallen trees disrupted power lines, while an uprooted tree blocked Jalori pass, affecting vehicle movement. The only reported casualty was a lineman tragically electrocuted during repair work following a power restoration.

The Shimla meteorological office has issued an alert, expecting hailstorms and strong winds to continue, disrupting daily lives. With restoration efforts in motion, the state is bracing for a wet spell until May 16, as forecasts warn of further rain and gusty winds.
