Pune's Water and Flood Relief: A Rs 1,290 Crore Initiative

The Centre has authorized a Rs 1,290 crore budget for water supply and flood control projects in Pune. The initiatives aim to deliver clean water to 7.78 lakh citizens and enhance flood mitigation across the city. Completion is anticipated by August 2026.

The Centre has greenlit water supply and flood mitigation projects in Pune, costing Rs 1,290 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund. This approval came during the first apex committee meeting, led by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' Secretary.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram outlined the proposals, highlighting a Rs 890 crore water supply initiative for villages like Khadakwasla and Nanded, with Rs 400 crore dedicated to flood control across Pune. These projects include a 200 MLD water purification facility and extensive distribution networks.

Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur pointed out the efforts as crucial for Pune's resilience and future-readiness, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' focus on Pune is driving comprehensive development.
