A powerful earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, hit China's Guangxi region early Monday, claiming two lives and injuring four others. State media reports confirm that the quake led to extensive building collapses.

The quake prompted the evacuation of more than 7,000 residents from Liuzhou city. Rescue operations concluded around midday with the discovery of a 91-year-old man, who was fortunately found alive and in good condition amid the debris.

The disaster wreaked havoc not only on infrastructure, but also disrupted transport, canceling train services and blocking roads due to landslides. Such seismic events occasionally affect southern China, with more intense earthquakes typically occurring further west near Sichuan, or eastward towards Taiwan.
