On Saturday afternoon, people across New England were alarmed by loud explosions and trembling buildings, prompting investigations into their cause. The disturbances were eventually attributed to a meteor entering the atmosphere near Massachusetts, according to the American Meteor Society.
The meteor, estimated to be about three feet wide, created a phenomenon that was sensed across a wide geographical area, from Delaware to Montreal. Despite the intense booms and vibrations, the meteor likely didn’t hit the ground, with experts suggesting it burned up in the atmosphere or landed in the ocean.
Robert Lunsford from the society indicated the meteor was larger than usual, appearing like a brilliant daytime shooting star. Videos shared on social media platforms captured the double booms around 2:30 PM, stirring curiosity and concern among residents.
