Rudrendra Tandon, Secretary (East) in the Indian foreign ministry, highlighted India's intent to reciprocate Venezuela's friendly partnership. Venezuela regards India as a preferred partner, and Rodriguez's itinerary includes visits to Indian oil refining facilities and meetings with industry leaders in Mumbai.

This diplomatic engagement follows India's significant oil imports from Venezuela, resuming after a recent easing of U.S. sanctions. Amid supply chain challenges, India, the third-largest oil importer globally, is prioritizing stable relations with key energy suppliers.
