Malaysian energy giant Petronas has signed a 20-year deal to supply Japanese utility company JERA with 2 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually. The agreement is scheduled to begin in 2028 and is vital for Japan's energy security as the country navigates global supply disruptions.

Japan's Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, highlighted the significance of this cooperation during a press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. She emphasized Malaysia's role as a stable LNG supplier amid international energy uncertainties, exacerbated by the ongoing war in Iran.

The meeting, part of Anwar's three-day visit to Tokyo, also explored enhanced trade relations, potential collaborations in AI and semiconductor industries, and strengthening critical mineral supply chains. Both leaders demonstrated a strong commitment to expanding their bilateral ties.
