In response to a massive wildfire in Serbia's Deliblatska Pescara nature reserve, the European Union has deployed its Civil Protection Mechanism to provide vital assistance. The EU's mission head in Belgrade, Andreas Beckerath, confirmed on Saturday that helicopters and firefighting crews will be dispatched to the area.

Following weeks of battling the blaze, Serbia turned to EU resources for support on Friday. The aid package comprises four Black Hawk helicopters from Germany, alongside 55 firefighters and 24 vehicles, and additional personnel and equipment from Romania.

Serbia, though not an EU member, has access to the EU's mechanism designed for emergency situations. Earlier this summer, Serbia reciprocated by aiding Spain in combating wildfires. Meanwhile, a Russian firefighting plane has also been deployed as efforts to contain the fire continue amid challenging weather forecasts.
