A magnitude of 5.4 earthquake hit Sulawesi, an Indonesian island this morning. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said it struck 129km southeast of the city of Palu at a depth of 10km.

There has been no reports of damage.

In 2018, an earthquake, followed by a tsunami killed more than 2,000 people in Sulawesi. It reduced buildings to rubble and swept people away.

According to experts, the deaths and damage was attributed to unpreparedness. This is because the city was not regarded as being at high-risk of a tsunami and was left grossly unprepared for the catastrophe.
