MHA operationalised Helpline Number 1938 for cyclone FANI

The state government of Odisha has evacuated more than a million people in the past 24 hours, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in on Twitter.

According to IMD officials, Extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Fani' hits Odisha coast in Puri with 175 kmph speed. Ministry of Home Affairs operationalised Helpline Number 1938 for cyclone FANI and was informed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Tweet.

Earlier Millions of people already evacuated living along India's east coast ahead of an extremely severe cyclone.

The state government of Odisha has evacuated more than a million people in the past 24 hours, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in on Twitter.

"The cyclone has entered the Odisha coast at Puri around 8 am and it will take around three hours for the entire landfall process to be completed," Director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, H R Biswas said.

More than 1 million people have been evacuated from the vulnerable districts in last 24hrs. Ganjam & Puri evacuated more than 3 lakh & 1.3 lakh people respectively to safe shelters. About 5000 kitchens started operating to serve people in the shelters. #OdishaPrepared4Fani

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his officials to stay in touch with the states at risk from cyclone Fani.
