Giants' doctors discovered tumor when WR Golden tried out for team

Veteran wide receiver Brittan Golden left a recent tryout with the New York Giants without a contract. But he has gratitude to the team -- and its doctors.
Golden, 30, signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and spent the last five years with the Arizona Cardinals. But when he tried out for the Giants, doctors performing a physical discovered a tumor and arranged with doctors in his hometown, Houston, to perform biopsy right away.
The Houston doctors had good news for him. The tumor was benign.
"I was just in New York as I had a workout for the Giants," Golden told Fox Sports in a Wednesday interview. "And they probably had the most extensive physical that I've ever been through in my life, which, is a good thing. . . The workout went well, but their doctor found a small tumor in my mouth.
"The good news was it is a benign tumor, so, it's not cancerous, which is the greatest thing in the world. The really bad news is that I'm gonna have to have surgery, probably we're gonna have to do it next week. That way the sooner the better, so at most I think I'll be out, for, like, four to six weeks."
When he recovers, Golden will still have time to try to sign on with a team in need of a wide receiver later in 2018. Until then, he'll stay busy as he recuperates.
He became the father of twin boys, Jaylen and Kash, earlier this week.
Golden played in 41 games (one start) over the last three seasons, catching 17 passes for 109 yards while logging about 75 percent of his snaps on special teams.
