Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn told reporters Thursday that defensive end Joey Bosa's status for Sunday's opener against the Kansas City Chiefs remains up in the air.
"It's a possibility that he might not be with us," Lynn said. "We're hopeful, but you know, it's possible.
"Foot injuries, they take on all the weight, the body weight, so that can be tricky. It's something that you don't really want to rush. You want to make sure that's right before a player comes back."
Bosa was expected to be ready for Week 1 after he suffered a left foot injury in practice on Aug. 7, but he was limited in practices Wednesday and Thursday, his first sessions back on the field since the injury.
The Chargers will officially designate Bosa's status on Friday after their last practice before Sunday's game.
Bosa, 23, missed the first four games of his rookie season in 2016 due to a hamstring injury but has played all 28 games since. He had 12.5 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, 70 tackles (11 for loss) and four forced fumbles last year, earning his first career Pro Bowl nod.
