Chicago White Sox activate Abreu from DL

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was activated from the 10-day disabled list and is slated to be in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Kansas City Royals.

Abreu hasn't played since Aug. 20 and underwent surgery to repair testicular torsion the following day.

When Abreu met with reporters on Sept. 4, he said the surgery was an emergency situation.

"It was one of my testicles turned sideways and was strangled," Abreu said that day. "The doctor had to perform emergency surgery to save it. I never thought about it, but it was serious."

Abreu, 31, is batting .272 with 22 homers, 36 doubles, and 78 RBIs over 122 games this season. He made the American League All-Star team for the second time in his career.
