Colts make series of moves for game against Patriots

The Indianapolis Colts made a series of moves Thursday before their game against the New England Patriots, including activating running back Robert Turbin and releasing defensive end Tarell Basham.

Turbin was suspended for the first four games of the season for a violation of the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy, but he should have a role against the Patriots with starter Marlon Mack (hamstring) out. He has 70 carries for 217 yards and eight scores in 21 games with the Colts, with seven of those touchdowns coming in 2016.

Basham, 24, was a 2017 third-round pick out of Ohio who had two sacks in 15 games as a rookie, but he was a healthy scratch in three of the team's first four games this season.

Also waived was defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad, who had started two of the team's first four games. A sixth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2017, Muhammad was claimed off waivers by Indianapolis after he didn't make it through the Saints' final cuts this year.

The Colts also promoted undrafted rookie linebacker Skai Moore and cornerback Lenzy Pipkens from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, which could be a bad sign for the availability of rookie second-round linebacker Darius Leonard and cornerback Nate Hairston, who are both questionable with ankle injuries. Cornerbacks Quincy Wilson and Kenny Moore have already been ruled out with concussions, as the Colts have seven players ruled out and six more listed as questionable.

Top wideout T.Y. Hilton (chest, hamstring) is among the Colts sitting out the contest.

Leonard leads the NFL in tackles (54) and is tied for third in tackles for loss (seven). He also has four sacks, two passes defensed, a fumble forced and a fumble recovered.
