Ben Stokes will appear in his last one-day international in the field first after South Africa chose to bat from the outset against England at Riverside Ground on Tuesday.

Stokes is retiring from ODIs to ease his workload as test captain and for the Twenty20s.

England made three changes after losing to India by five wickets on Sunday at Old Trafford, bringing in allrounder Sam Curran and bowlers Adil Rashid and debutant Matthew Potts for David Willey, Craig Overton, and Reece Topley.

South Africa hasn't played an ODI since March when it lost to Bangladesh by nine wickets at Centurion.

With captain Temba Bavuma injured at home, the team is led by Keshav Maharaj, who comes in with fellow bowlers Andile Phehlukwayo and Anrich Nortje, batter Aiden Markram, and wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen. ___ Lineups: England: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Joe Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts.

South Africa: Janneman Malan, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj (captain), Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi.
