Former Angolan referee Soares de Campos’ corpse buried in Alto das Cruzes cemetery

Former Angolan international basketball referee Soares de Campos was buried on Thursday (December 13) in the Alto das Cruzes cemetery in Luanda.

The 67-year-old former referee died last Monday of a heart attack, at a time when he held the position of coordinator of competitions at Angolan Basketball Federation.

The late referee began to play basketball in the club Vila Clotilde and then at the Railway of Angola where he was national champion in 1978. He finished his career in 1º de Agosto in 1985.

Soares de Campo then opted for arbitration having whistled in several international tournaments from 1986 to 2000.

Among several achievements throughout his career, he was considered three times at the end of the 90's, best African referee, in addition to whistling in world Cup and three Olympic games, in particular "Barcelona1992".

He also performed in four Senior Men's World Championships, three Afro basket in men's and two in Women's, as well as games in Southern Africa.
