Indian-American Akshay Bhatia remained in contention for another impressive result, positioned in a tie for seventh at the midway point of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.
Bhatia delivered rounds of 69 and 72, bringing him to 3-under for 36 holes. He stands alongside golf luminaries such as Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, the 2024 PGA champion.
Another Indian-American, Sahith Theegala, also showed promise with a T-20 position. Meanwhile, two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler demonstrated resilience in fierce winds, shooting a 4-under 68 to secure a three-shot lead. Combined with his initial 5-under 67, Scheffler is currently 9-under.
Scheffler is leading at 9-under 135, three strokes ahead of Viktor Hovland and Adam Hadwin, vying for a $4 million prize. Hovland, the defending champion, aims to make history by winning consecutive Memorial Tournaments, a feat last achieved by Tiger Woods.
Scheffler, having placed third in this tournament twice before, cemented his lead with an eagle on the par-5 15th, solid par saves, and a 12-foot birdie. Christiaan Bezuidenhout from South Africa delivered the best round of the day with a 67, standing four shots behind alongside Keegan Bradley. Ludvig Aberg, who spent two days observing Scheffler's clinical performance, trails by five shots.
The Memorial is one of the season's eight Signature Events and one of three player-hosted tournaments. With the dry weather forecast expected to firm up Muirfield Village course further, the weekend promises increased challenges for the players.
