Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh will be retained next season and the two sides are working on a contract extension to keep him with the Ravens beyond next season, the team announced Friday. The news came a month or so after speculation abounded around the NFL that the Ravens would fire Harbaugh after the season, despite his career 112-77 record, including a 10-5 mark in the playoffs.

Panthers S Reid: NFL fined me $20k for legal play

Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid on Friday offered further proof of what he alleges is a campaign by the NFL to target him because of his ongoing grievance against the league. Reid tweeted a video of a play from Monday night's 12-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints in which Reid dove toward Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas as Thomas was being spun out of bounds by Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly.

NBA notebook: Paul reportedly out two-three weeks

The Houston Rockets were prepared for the worst after point guard Chris Paul left Thursday's game with a left hamstring injury, but he apparently will miss just two to three weeks, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday, citing league sources. Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said after the game that Paul would be out for "some time." Paul was scheduled to have an MRI exam on Friday.

College football notebook: Michigan keeps a quarterback, loses defensive tackle

Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson said Friday he will return to Ann Arbor next year for his senior season and will not enter the 2019 NFL Draft. Patterson transferred to Michigan from Ole Miss after the 2017 season, and the NCAA granted his waiver request to become eligible to play immediately in 2018. The Wolverines finished 10-2 and will meet Florida in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 29.

Report: Machado won't choose a team before 2019

Free agent infielder Manny Machado has told teams interested in his services that he won't be making a decision until after the New Year, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The three teams known to have hosted Machado for a visit are the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies.

Yankees' Sabathia undergoes angioplasty

New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia recently underwent angioplasty to clear a blocked artery, his agent announced Friday. Kyle Thousand of Roc Nation Sports issued a statement that read, "CC was experiencing some chest pain which turned out to be a blockage in one artery to his heart. A procedure was done to insert a stent to clear the blockage on Dec. 11. CC is doing great and will be reporting to spring training on time to get ready to play for his upcoming final season in 2019."

Report: Raiders in talks to play at AT&T Park in 2019

With Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos likely the Oakland Raiders' final game played at Oakland Coliseum, the Raiders' home for next season is still up in the air before the franchise moves to Las Vegas in 2020. Currently entangled in a lawsuit filed by the city of Oakland, which would seem to remove the option of one more season at the Coliseum, the Raiders are reportedly in discussions with the San Francisco Giants about possible playing the 2019 home slate of games at AT&T Park.

WADA denied access to lab data, Russia facing suspension

Russia's Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) is again on the verge of suspension after a World Anti-Doping Agency inspection team visiting a Moscow laboratory was denied access to raw data to complete its full reinstatement, WADA said on Friday. The five-member WADA team had spent a week in Russia but left the Moscow lab and returned home frustrated and without having retrieved any of the data in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) it had been promised access to.

James' remarks about Davis irk NBA general managers

LeBron James' recent comments about how it would be "amazing" to play with New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis have upset general managers around the NBA, according to an ESPN report. Small-market general managers told ESPN they feel James' expressed adulation about possibly playing on the same Los Angeles Lakers' team with Davis was tampering and that the league office should enforce the NBA bylaw that prohibits such comments. The bylaw reads:

MLB notebook: Dodgers deal Puig, Kemp to Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded outfielders Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig to the Cincinnati Reds, the teams announced Friday. Left-hander Alex Wood and backup catcher Kyle Farmer also were sent to Cincinnati, which dealt right-hander Homer Bailey to the Dodgers. Los Angeles sent $7 million to the Reds.
