The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced significant changes to the selection committee, according to sources who spoke to Geo News. The new structure will include coaches for white-ball and red-ball formats, alongside the respective format captains. Former players Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq will also join the committee.
This decision follows Pakistan's disappointing exit from the group stages of the T20 World Cup, which led PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to overhaul the team management.
On Wednesday, PCB confirmed they had informed Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services were no longer required in the selection setup. Razzaq was a member of both the men's and women's selection committees, while Riaz served as a selector for the men's team.
Due to disciplinary issues, Riaz was also removed from his role as senior team manager, along with team manager Rana Mansoor. Over the past four years, six selectors have been replaced: Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid, and Misbah-ul-Haq, each serving brief terms.
Sources revealed that Wahab and Mansoor were accused of showing undue favoritism towards certain players, who subsequently failed to perform. These decisions were reportedly opposed by other committee members.
In response to his dismissal, Wahab posted on X, stating, "There is a lot I can say, but I don't want to be part of the blame games." He also shared a letter expressing his commitment and sincerity during his tenure on the selection committee.
