In a stunning display of batting prowess, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill posted India's second-highest partnership in T20Is during a run-chase on Saturday, achieving another milestone in India’s T20I batting records during the fourth match against Zimbabwe at Harare.
Chasing a target of 152 runs, the young opening pair decimated the Zimbabwean bowlers, securing a 10-wicket victory with 28 balls to spare, thanks to their 156-run partnership. Notably, Gill and Jaiswal also hold the record for India's highest partnership in T20Is during a run-chase, with a 165-run stand against West Indies in Lauderhill last year.
This partnership marks India's fifth 150-plus opening stand in T20Is, with the record held by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul's 165-run partnership against Sri Lanka in 2017. This successful run-chase without losing any wicket is only the fifth such instance in T20I history.
India had earlier won the toss and opted to bowl, restricting Zimbabwe to 152/7 in their 20 overs. Despite a solid 63-run opening stand from Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani, the Indian bowlers chipped away at regular intervals. Skipper Sikandar Raza's 46 off 28 balls provided some resistance, but Khaleel Ahmed (2/32) emerged as the standout bowler for India.
During India's chase, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls, while skipper Gill contributed an undefeated 58 off 39 balls. Their flawless performance not only ensured India clinched the match but also secured a 3-1 series lead with one game to go. Jaiswal was named 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding knock.
