Xherdan Shaqiri, the former Bayern Munich and Liverpool winger, has officially retired from international football. His decision comes after a notable 14-year career with the Swiss national team. During his tenure, Shaqiri scored 32 goals in 125 matches and became the only Swiss player to appear in seven major tournaments, spanning from the 2010 World Cup to Euro 2024.

Shaqiri, 32, made two appearances in Euro 2024, where Switzerland reached the quarter-finals. Reflecting on his career, Shaqiri shared his thoughts on Instagram, stating, "Seven tournaments, many goals, 14 years with the Swiss national team and unforgettable moments. It's time to say goodbye to the national team. Great memories remain and I say to you all, thank you."

Additionally, Shaqiri has had a successful club career, winning the Swiss and German leagues three times each with FC Basel and Bayern Munich, and the Premier League with Liverpool. Since 2022, he has been playing for Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire.
