Former world number one Justin Thomas took full advantage of favorable conditions at Royal Troon on Saturday, delivering a series of birdies that propelled him up the Open leaderboard. After two challenging days of stiff breezes, Thomas went out in 31, recording five birdies in the first eight holes of his third round.

The American golfer continued his impressive form with a 24-foot birdie putt on the 12th, advancing to three under for the tournament, just four strokes behind leader Shane Lowry. Thomas, who began the day four over, had initially held the clubhouse lead on the opening day with a three-under 68, despite a rocky start in the second round.

Other golfers also made significant moves early on, with South Africa's Thriston Lawrence playing the front nine in 30 shots, collecting six birdies. Australian Adam Scott and South Korea's Sungjae Im both shot five-under 66 rounds. Notably, South Korea's Kim Si-woo scored a hole-in-one on the 238-yard par-three 17th, marking the first ace of the tournament. Shane Lowry and Daniel Brown are set to tee off later in the day.
