Jaguar's Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy are his closest competitors.

Previous championship leader Cassidy started in 17th and managed to finish in seventh place, now trailing by seven points. Meanwhile, the title aspirations of DS Penske's Jean-Eric Vergne, Nissan's Oliver Rowland, and Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa have been dashed as they failed to score in this race.

Wehrlein decisively overtook pole sitter Mitch Evans midway through the race and maintained his lead despite a late safety car interruption. Envision's Sebastien Buemi claimed third place, while Cassidy ended the race with bent steering after a collision with Jake Dennis of Andretti.
