Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made a remarkable start at the Olympics with a straight-game victory in their men's doubles opener. The third-seeded duo defeated the French pair of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar 21-17, 21-14 in their Group C match.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen kicked off his maiden Olympic campaign with a win against Guatemala's Kevin Cordon in the men's singles. Sen, a former Commonwealth gold medallist, secured a 21-8, 22-20 victory. Despite trailing in the second game, Sen displayed commendable composure and sealed the match in his favour.
Rankireddy and Shetty will face Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel next, while Sen will compete against Julien Carraggi of Belgium. Both matches are slated for Monday, where the Indian hopefuls aim to carry their momentum forward.
