Following their victory against Sri Lanka in the first T20I, Indian captain Shubman Gill commended his batting partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, noting the excellent experience of batting alongside him. The stellar performance of the bowlers in the latter half of the second innings steered India to a 43-run triumph in the opening match of the three-game series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
"We maintained good communication and knew we only needed one wicket when Sri Lanka was 140/1," Gill remarked during the post-match presentation. He added that batting with Jaiswal was great as they complement each other well. "Our approach is simple: assess the conditions and then challenge the bowlers," Gill added. Sri Lankan skipper Charith Assalanka had chosen to bowl first after winning the toss.
