The team, nicknamed the Marina Machans, kicks off its campaign against the Indian Army on Wednesday. A first-place finish or potentially a second-place finish in the group would secure a spot in the knockout rounds. The squad features a mix of senior players and up-and-coming talent, including notable individuals like Vincy Barretto, Bikash Yumnam, and Irfan Yadwad, among others.

Chennaiyin FC, which reached the quarterfinals in the past two iterations of the Durand Cup, will face Jamshedpur FC on August 4 and Assam Rifles on August 11 in their remaining group matches. Assistant coach Noel Wilson emphasized the team's determination by stating, 'We are going there to win games. We are not going there to take part.'
