Paris Olympics Men's Triathlon Postponed Over Seine Water Quality Concerns
Paris Olympics organizers postponed the men's triathlon due to water quality concerns in the Seine River. They hope to reschedule it, depending on bacterial levels. Despite spending 1.4 billion euros on water cleanup, E. coli levels remain above safe limits, complicating the triathlon and marathon swimming events.
Paris Olympics organizers postponed the men's triathlon Tuesday due to water quality concerns in the Seine River. Officials are hopeful the race's swimming portion can proceed in the coming days after an expensive cleanup effort.
The men's event might take place Wednesday, alongside the women's competition, depending on acceptable levels of E. coli and other bacteria in the river. Backup plans are set for Friday, although forecasted rain could complicate rescheduling.
The postponement follows a meeting involving World Triathlon, the International Olympic Committee, and Paris officials. Despite recent improvements, some swim course points still showed high bacterial readings.
