Disappointing Finish for Indian Race Walkers at Olympics
India's Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh finished 30th and 37th in the men's 20km race walk event at the Olympics. National record-holder Akshdeep Singh withdrew after the 6km mark. Brian Daniel Pintado won the race, while Priyanka Goswami will compete in the women's 20km race walk event later.
India's race walkers Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh had a disappointing outing at the Olympic 20km event, finishing 30th and 37th respectively. National record-holder Akshdeep Singh withdrew after just 6km.
The event was won by Ecuador's Brian Daniel Pintado with a time of 1:18:55. Brazil’s Caio Bonfim and Spain's reigning world champion Alvaro Martin secured the silver and bronze medals with times of 1:19:09 and 1:19:11, respectively. Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Massimo Stano from Italy finished fourth.
The best performance by an Indian in this discipline remains KT Irfan's 10th place in the 2012 London Games, timed at 1:20:21. Priyanka Goswami will compete in the women’s 20km race walk event later in the day.
