Remco Evenepoel and his Belgian teammates, along with other prominent cyclists, conducted a slow reconnaissance ride on the Paris Olympic road race course. The route features a challenging finishing circuit through Montmartre, renowned for its bustling tourist area and the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

The busy streets made it difficult to close the area off, so the cyclists had to maintain a controlled 30 kph pace during their inspection. The favourite for the men's race, Mathieu van der Poel, opted for an individual training session instead, citing it wasn't worth 'sacrificing an entire afternoon to cycle around at a tourist pace.'

The road races, traditionally opening the cycling program, have been rescheduled. After a week full of various cycling events, the spotlight returns to the road race. The men will ride 273 kilometres on Saturday and the women 158 kilometres on Sunday, starting from Pont d'Iena and heading west into the French countryside.

Both races are expected to be fiercely contested, with the Belgian squad, led by Evenepoel, facing strong competition from France, the UK, Denmark, Slovenia, and Italy.
