Dortmund Secures Yan Couto on Loan from Manchester City

Borussia Dortmund has signed Brazilian defender Yan Couto on loan from Manchester City, with an option to make the arrangement permanent.

The Bundesliga club announced on Saturday that the 22-year-old Couto has agreed to a loan deal through June 2025. This arrangement will become permanent if specific sporting criteria are met in the upcoming season.

Couto, who joined Manchester City in 2020 from Brazilian club Coritiba, previously had loan spells at Sporting Braga and Girona. Last season, he helped Girona to a third-place finish in the Spanish league, playing 59 league games over two seasons.

Dortmund's managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, remarked, "Yan Couto was on our radar even before he won the Under-17 World Cup with Brazil in 2019. He has remarkable potential with outstanding pace, technique, and creativity."

At just 22, Couto has already made four appearances for Brazil and is expected to follow in the footsteps of former Brazilian greats at Dortmund, like Júlio César, Dedé, and Márcio Amoroso.
