In a historic move, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will join Paarl Royals for the third season of SA20, becoming the first Indian to play in the competition. The announcement was made by the franchise on Tuesday, signaling a major milestone in Karthik's illustrious career.
“Royals Sports Group-owned franchise Paarl Royals on Tuesday announced the marquee signing of legendary Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik as one of their newest overseas recruits for Season 3. The 39-year-old, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket earlier in June, has decided to represent the Royals,” said a statement from Paarl. Known for his finishing prowess in white-ball cricket, Karthik has represented India in 180 international matches, accumulating 3,463 runs, including one century and 17 fifties.
Karthik's addition to the squad brings extensive experience from various leagues, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has amassed 7,407 runs in 401 matches. The veteran cricketer expressed his enthusiasm for the new chapter, looking forward to competing in South Africa once again. Royals' Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, highlighted Karthik’s impact, calling him a valuable asset to the team.
