Europe Overhauls Ryder Cup Qualifying Criteria for 2025 Matches
Europe has revised its Ryder Cup qualifying criteria for the 2025 matches, introducing a single points list for the leading six players. This change simplifies qualification and offers opportunities to earn points at various PGA Tour events. Six automatic qualifiers will be determined from a consolidated points list.
Europe overhauled its Ryder Cup qualifying criteria Monday for the 2025 matches at Bethpage Black, creating a single points list for the leading six players that gives them a chance to earn points at PGA Tour events.
Previously, three players qualified through world ranking points earned a year out from the matches, and three players from Race to Dubai points earned at European tour events. This change allows European players to earn points predominantly at major tournaments and PGA Tour events.
Players who have joined the Saudi-funded LIV Golf, like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, will mainly earn points at majors. They remain eligible for captain's picks if they stay European tour members and pay fines for participating in LIV events. European tour's tournament committee ratified this change.
