In a historic achievement, Vinesh Phogat (50kg) became the first Indian woman wrestler to make it to the final of the Olympic Games. Her decisive 5-0 victory over Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez on Tuesday ensured her at least a silver medal.

The semifinal match started cautiously for both wrestlers, but Vinesh secured an early technical point after Lopez was penalized for passivity. She led 1-0 at the end of the first period.

Earlier, she had triumphed over reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki of Japan and Ukraine's Oksana Livach, marking a significant journey for the Indian wrestler, who previously exited in the quarter-finals in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
