Heartbreak for Indian Men's Hockey Team in Olympic Semifinal
The Indian men's hockey team narrowly missed advancing to their first Olympic final in 44 years, losing 3-2 to Germany. Despite creating numerous opportunities, India struggled to convert penalty corners while Germany capitalized on limited chances. India will now play Spain for the bronze medal.
The Indian men's hockey team came agonisingly close to making its first Olympic final after 44 years but were narrowly defeated by world champions Germany with a 3-2 win in a hard-fought semifinal on Tuesday.
Aiming to surpass their Tokyo bronze, India created abundant opportunities but struggled to convert them. Germany, avenging their previous defeat, capitalized on their limited chances. India secured 11 penalty corners but managed to convert only two, while Germany took advantage of one out of their four penalty corners and scored through a penalty stroke and a field goal.
India still has a shot at winning a consecutive Olympic medal as they face Spain for the bronze on Thursday, while Germany will compete against the Netherlands for gold. The last time India won back-to-back Olympic medals was in 1968 and 1972.
