Sri Lankan Cricket Team Requests Enhanced Security Amid UK's Anti-Immigrant Riots
The Sri Lankan cricket team has raised safety concerns with the England and Wales Cricket Board due to anti-immigrant riots in the UK. Players already in England for training are requesting increased security ahead of their test series against England, set to begin on August 21 at Old Trafford.
In light of ongoing anti-immigrant riots in Britain, the Sri Lankan cricket team has raised security concerns with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Players currently in England for preliminary training before the three-match test series have requested enhanced security measures. The main squad is scheduled to arrive in London on Sunday.
A Sri Lankan player in England expressed concerns, noting they are confined mostly to their hotel to avoid potential trouble, as they await a security plan from their cricket board. "We can't go out to dinner or do anything like that," the player told ESPNcricinfo. "No one wants to run into trouble and get beaten up."
In response to these concerns, Sri Lanka's team manager Mahinda Halangoda has been in communication with the ECB, which has provided a comprehensive security plan, including a security liaison for the tour. The first test match is scheduled to begin on August 21 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
