Qatar's Al Gharafa and Shandong Taishan from China clinched the final places in the Asian Champions League Elite group stages, following playoff victories on Tuesday against Shabab Al-Ahli and Bangkok United respectively.
Ferjani Sassi netted the sole goal for Al Gharafa against their UAE rivals, heading in Jamal Hamed's cross in the 50th minute. Shandong secured their place through a dramatic penalty shootout, overcoming Bangkok United after a 1-1 draw during regular play.
The decisive moment came when Bangkok United's Todsawat Limwanasathian missed his penalty, handing Shandong a 4-3 victory in the shootout. The tournament is set to commence on Sept. 16 with a complete 24-team lineup.
