The inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20 was officially set in motion following a spectacular opening ceremony at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. The event featured electrifying performances by music sensation Badshah and actress Sonam Bajwa, holding the crowd's attention throughout the evening. Top management from the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), franchise team owners, players, and staff from all participating men's and women's teams were in attendance.
Addressing the audience, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley expressed immense pride in launching the first-ever Delhi Premier League. 'This marks a historic moment for both DDCA and the capital. The league will offer a crucial platform for Delhi's players to showcase their talent and will greatly influence the future of cricket in the city,' he stated. 'It will also bring the community together. We extend our best wishes to all the men's and women's players participating in the league, and anticipate an exciting season ahead,' Jaitley added.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of Delhi cricketers Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli for their significant contributions to India's ICC T20 World Cup victory. Pant, scheduled to play for Purani Dilli 6 in the league, accepted the honor in person, while Kohli's brother received it on his behalf. The league opener will feature a clash between Purani Dilli 6 and South Delhi Superstarz right after the opening gala, with cricket icons such as Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Ayush Badoni, and Lalit Yadav slated to participate in the first match.
