Jonas Vingegaard Triumphs at Tour of Poland
Jonas Vingegaard won the Tour of Poland title, marking a significant return to the race that catalyzed his career. He decided to forego racing in the Vuelta a Espana post an exhausting Tour de France. Recovering from an earlier injury, Vingegaard clinched victory without winning any specific stage.
Jonas Vingegaard secured the Tour of Poland title on Sunday, making a triumphant return to the event that initially boosted his career. The Danish two-time Tour de France champion chose to skip the Vuelta a Espana after an intense Tour de France, where he finished second and took a break following a crash in April.
At 27, Vingegaard returned to Poland, where he had his first UCI World Tour win in 2019. Although he didn't clinch any stage victories this time, he achieved an overall race win. 'Everything went according to plan. After the Tour de France, I felt that I had fully recovered from the injury,' Vingegaard shared.
Vingegaard captured the yellow jersey after stage two and held a 13-second lead over Italian Diego Ulissi by the end of the seven stages. The final stage ended in a bunch sprint finish in Krakow, with his teammate Olav Kooij taking the stage win.
