Linda Noskova gave herself a significant boost ahead of the U.S. Open by winning her first WTA tour title with a hard-fought 7-6(6) 6-4 victory over Lulu Sun at the Monterrey Open.
Noskova, ranked 35th in the world, rebounded from her earlier defeat by Sun in Cincinnati to secure her triumph in Saturday's final, adding momentum ahead of her U.S. Open debut against world number 31 Yulia Putintseva.
The 19-year-old Czech player saved two set points in the opening set and capitalized on Sun's unforced errors in the second, wrapping up her victory in just under two hours. Sun, despite the loss, will break into the top 50 rankings for the first time ahead of her U.S. Open match against Lucia Bronzetti.
