Zverev Powers Through to U.S. Open's Third Round

Germany's Alexander Zverev advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open by defeating Alexandre Muller 6-4 7-6(5) 6-1 in challenging weather conditions. Zverev landed 15 aces and demonstrated skill with drop shots, overcoming Muller's 41 unforced errors and leg injury.

Germany's Alexander Zverev advanced to the U.S. Open's third round on Wednesday, overcoming Alexandre Muller with a 6-4 7-6(5) 6-1 victory on a sweltering Louis Armstrong Stadium court.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, Zverev, the fourth seed, delivered 15 aces and expertly used drop shots at the net, maintaining his ambition for a first major title post his runner-up finish at Roland Garros. Muller, world No. 77, struggled with 41 unforced errors and an apparent leg injury.

After a shaky start in round one, Zverev broke Muller's serve in the first game and claimed the tight first set. Muller briefly left for medical attention but returned fighting. Nearly clinching the second set, Muller faltered as Zverev took five consecutive tiebreak points to win. Zverev then dominated the third set, concluding the match with an ace.
