Indian discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya emphasized the importance of mental strength after securing his fifth consecutive silver medal at the Paris Paralympics. The 27-year-old has cited the need to rebuild his mental fortitude, attributing his recent performances to a decline since a cervical injury in 2022.
Kathuniya, who competes in the F-56 category from a seated position due to spinal cord injuries, recorded a season-best throw of 42.22m. Despite his struggles with mental and physical challenges, including a bout with chickenpox and cervical radiculopathy, he remains optimistic about his future in the sport.
He plans to focus on enhancing his mental strength and participating in more competitions. Kathuniya aims to surpass his personal best and even hopes to be the first to cross 50m in a seated throw. The athlete is set to take a two-month break in Switzerland to rejuvenate before resuming his training.
