Adil Rashid made history on Saturday, becoming the first England spinner to secure 200 ODI wickets. This milestone was achieved in the second ODI against Australia at Leeds.
During his 10-over spell, Rashid recorded figures of 2/42 at an economy rate of 4.20, dismissing Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa. Since his ODI debut in 2009, Rashid has accumulated 201 wickets in 137 matches, averaging 32.22, with a career-best performance of 5/27. He has also accomplished eight four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls.
Rashid stands as England's third-highest wicket-taker in ODIs, trailing only pacers James Anderson (269 wickets in 194 matches) and Darren Gough (234 wickets in 158 matches). In the match, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss. A 46-run opening stand by Matthew Short (29 off 36) and Travis Head (29 off 27) set the stage for Australia, before a 56-run partnership between skipper Mitchell Marsh (60 off 59) and Marnus Labuschagne (19) stabilized the innings.
England wrested control after this partnership, though Alex Carey's resilient knock of 74 off 67 balls helped Australia post 270 runs in 44.4 overs. Brydon Carse emerged as the pick of the bowlers for England with figures of 3/75, while Rashid, Jacob Bethell, and Matthew Potts each claimed two wickets.
Australia leads the five-match series 1-0.
