Key Talent Shift: Will Courtenay Joins McLaren as Sporting Director

Red Bull's Head of Race Strategy, Will Courtenay, will transition to McLaren as their new Sporting Director, the Woking-based team announced Tuesday. This move adds to the list of significant talent departures from Red Bull, including star designer Adrian Newey, who recently joined Aston Martin.

Courtenay, who has devoted 20 years to Red Bull, will now report to McLaren's Racing Director Randeep Singh. Although his exact start date at McLaren is unclear, media reports indicate his Red Bull contract runs until mid-2026. McLaren's Team Principal, Andrea Stella, expressed enthusiasm about Courtenay's arrival, citing his extensive experience and passion for motorsport.

As McLaren eyes key phases of their team development, Stella believes Courtenay's leadership will be pivotal in their continued challenge for wins and championships. Currently trailing McLaren by 41 points in the constructors' standings, Red Bull still has six rounds remaining, including the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
