The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has scheduled its pivotal presidential election meeting for January 30, where seven candidates will present to voters ahead of the March ballot.
This confidential meeting, held at the IOC headquarters, is the sole official campaign event in what is one of the most discreet elections in global sports. According to IOC regulations, candidates are prohibited from disseminating videos, organizing public meetings, or engaging in public debates.
Among the contenders to succeed outgoing IOC President Thomas Bach are three executive board members: Vice President Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. of Spain, Prince Feisal al Hussein of Jordan, and Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry. Additionally, leaders from various Olympic sports governing bodies are in the running. The vote by approximately 100 IOC members, including nobility, sports officials, and past and present athletes, will occur during a March meeting near Ancient Olympia in Greece.
