On Sunday, athlete Lili Das expressed her delight at becoming the fastest Indian female runner at the Delhi Half Marathon, achieving this milestone with a timing of 1:18:12 hours. She initially anticipated only a podium finish. However, she surpassed expectations by claiming the top position.
Kavita Yadav, last year's winner, secured the second spot with a timing of 1:19:44 hours, while Priti Lamba finished third with a timing of 1:20:20 hours. Lili shared her experience with ANI, describing the race as her first marathon and highlighting the presence of many accomplished competitors.
Despite facing challenges, including a leg cramp at the 19-kilometer mark, Lili managed to overcome them, saying, "The race was stretching my limits, and I felt like crying at the finishing line." She remains determined to improve her timing in future marathons.
Lili mentioned that she didn't face issues with pollution or dehydration, as advised by her fellow racers to run with caution. She noted, "The only challenge was the unexpected cramp, which emerged suddenly."
In the men's category, Sawan Barwal emerged victorious, topping the chart with a time of 1:02:46 hours, bettering his previous performance. He expressed satisfaction with his race despite the absence of major competitors and now sets his eyes on the Asian Championships in 2025.
