The Indian sports ministry's recent decision to include e-sports medallists and their coaches in its cash incentive program has sparked excitement within the community. This move, hailed by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI), is anticipated to drive a significant increase in grassroots participation across the nation.

The ministry has announced a list of 51 sports eligible for cash rewards, featuring those in the Olympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the World University Games roster. Notably, this list includes niche and emerging sports like mallakhamb, e-sports, and kho kho, highlighting the growing recognition of non-traditional sports industries.

Markets experts see this as a landmark moment for Indian e-sports. According to Lokesh Suji, Director of ESFI and VP of the Asian Esports Federation, the government's recognition is a pivotal step, encouraging young talents to compete on the global stage. The inclusion of coaches is also crucial, aiming to establish a structured training ecosystem to elevate India’s e-sports framework.
