Torrent Group Steps into Sports: Acquires 67% Stake in Gujarat Titans

The Torrent Group, known for its healthcare and energy operations, has acquired a 67% majority stake in the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans. This strategic move, involving a partnership with Irelia Company Pte Ltd and CVC, marks Torrent's deliberate entry into India's burgeoning sports sector.

On Wednesday, Torrent Group, a notable player in the healthcare and energy sectors, announced its acquisition of a majority stake in the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans. This significant move sees Torrent Group taking a 67% stake, marking its entry into the sports domain.

This acquisition from Irelia Company Pte Ltd, facilitated through Torrent Investments Private Limited (TIPL), signifies a strategic shift for the Ahmedabad-based conglomerate towards capitalizing on the rapid growth of sports in India. Irelia will retain a 33% minority stake in the team.

Jinal Mehta, Director of Torrent Group, expressed optimism about the venture, highlighting the firm's commitment to enhancing fan engagement and exploring growth opportunities in the sports industry. Meanwhile, CVC partners acknowledged their positive investment history in Indian cricket and other sports like MotoGP and Formula One.
